THE ISOLATION, PURIFICATION and STRUCTURAL DETERMINATION of SECONDARY METABOLITES from Dracocephalum imberbe

Project no. 31930 · Status: Kapanmış · 2023

Summary

Dracocephalum is a plant from the Lamiaceae family, known for its beuatiful flowers and mostly found in the temperate regions of Asia and Europe, consisting of about 70 species in the world. Dracocephalum species are medicinal aromatic plants known for their strong biological activities and pharmacological properties. They have been reported to be plants with many different biological activity potentials such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, insecticidal, cytotoxic and many different structures such as phenolics, flavonoids and terpenes.

In this context, the aim of study to obtain new biologically active natural compounds from the Dracocephalum imberbe, whose chemical content has not been determined before. In our study, isolation, purification and structural determination studies were carried out, for the first time. The pure compounds were isolated as a result of following extraction processes with various polarities solvents (methanol, water, butanol, n-hexane), and then chromatographic techniques such as RP-VLC and column chromatography with different adsorbents and solvent systems. Their structures were elucidated by 1 and 2-dimensional NMR analyses. The structures of the isolated compounds were determined as luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucoside (1), (2S)-5,7,3’,5’-tetrahydroxy-flavanone-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (2), ursolic acid (4), luteolin (5) and 5,7,3’,5’-tetrahydroxyflavanone (6). It is thought that the flavonoid compounds, especially luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucoside which is detected as the major compound in the plant, will show significant potential in the medical field by offering promising applications nowadays and in the future.
