ENCAPSULATION OF ICG AND METHYLENE BLUE WITH SILICA NANOPARTICLES AND THE POTENTIAL OF IN VIVO PELVIC SENTINEL LYMPH NODULE DETECTION

Project no. 83 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017

Summary

Examining sentinel lymph node has increasing importance in the area of oncological surgery. The primary node to stained is sentinel lymph node among the lymph nodes, whether it is a tumor node or not. Identifying sentinel lymph nodes prevents unnecessary and excessively invasive procedures in oncological patients and reduces an additional surgical morbidity rate in the patient. Due to the aforementioned advantages, this procedure is regarded as a daily routine that keeps surgical procedures to a minimum. Sentinel lymph node identification applications have been practiced with methylene blue and ICG in gynecological oncology. In this study, methylene blue and ICG were encapsulated in mesoporous silica nanoparticles so as to enhance the sensitivity of sentinel lymph node applications. Methylene blue and ICG doped mesoporous silica nanoparticles were injected in cervix uteri of female Albino Wistar rats, photographic and fluorescence IVIS images were taken. It was found that ICG encapsulated mesoporous silica nanoparticles can be imaged up to 60 minutes compared to free ICG.
