Synthesis of Flexible Phase Change Material
Project no. 32860 · Status: Kapanmış · 2025
Summary

In this study, flexible phase change materials (FPCMs) were synthesized and systematically investigated to evaluate their potential in thermal energy storage and thermal management applications, particularly for lithium-ion batteries and portable electronic systems. The experimental design explored the influence of different polymeric matrices, additives, and processing parameters on the thermal and mechanical properties of PEG-based composites. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) were employed to assess phase transition behavior, latent heat storage, and flexibility. The results revealed that glycerol incorporation enhanced elasticity, expanded graphite improved both thermal response and energy storage (~80 J/g), while alumina increased thermal capacity but reduced flexibility. TPU-based systems maintained high adaptability due to their inherent elasticity. Overall, the findings demonstrate that PEG-based FPCMs, especially those with glycerol and graphite, provide a favorable balance between latent heat storage and mechanical compliance, highlighting their promise for next-generation battery thermal management and multifunctional energy materials.
