Project no. 22864 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2021
Summary

Objective: The aim was to investigate the effect of grounding on severity of hyperemesis gravidarum, fatigue, anxiety and quality of life in pregnant women.

Method: The study is a randomized controlled trial. 91 pregnant women who met the inclusion criteria were divided into two groups (intervention and placebo) by simple randomization method. A total of three evaluations were made in both groups by face-to-face interview method, namely the first evaluation, 1 week after the first evaluation and 2 weeks after. The study was conducted using 7 forms as data collection tool: Pregnancy Introduction Form, Pregnancy Nausea and Vomiting Severity Evaluation (PUQE) Test, Visual Similarity Scale for Fatigue, Pregnancy-Related Anxiety Scale, SF-12 Quality of Life Scale, Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire and Pregnancy Follow-up Form, and grounding/sham grounding baton. Pregnant women in the intervention and placebo groups were asked to walk on the ground with a grounding baton/sham grounding baton for 30 minutes a day and these pregnant women were followed up for two weeks.

Findings: In terms of nausea and vomiting severity and findings, fatigue, anxiety and quality of life data in the first evaluation, both groups were similar. After the two-week grounding program in pregnant women, a significant difference was found between the two groups in terms of nausea and vomiting severity and quality of life. However, no statistical difference was observed between the two groups in terms of anxiety, fatigue and energy levels.

Conclusion: It has been determined that grounding is effective in alleviating the symptoms of hyperemesis graviarum in pregnant women and has a positive effect on quality of life. However, the limited effects observed on anxiety, fatigue and especially energy levels indicate that grounding requires further research in these areas.

Keywords: Pregnancy; Hyperemesis Gravidarum; Fatigue; Anxiety; Quality of Life; Grounding.
