Well Finds From Yamaç Ev at Antandrus
Project no. 939 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
In this study, 170 material collected from the water well uncovered in 2014 at Antandros “Yamaç Ev” were evaluated. The majority of the finds, which in a context, constitute ceramics, while the seven coins recovered have an important place in terms of dating. When the materials recovered from the well were examined, it observed that the earliest specimens were Çandarlı wares and dated to the middle of the 4th century AD. The majority of the material consists of Phocean ceramics, which is called LRC dated to the 4th - early 5th century AD. Another important group of ceramics is ”Light Color“. The fact that this group, which is still controversial in the place of production, is intensively encountered in the wells as well as in Antandros, supports the views that the production area is in the vicinity of the Troad region. The latest materials uncovered within the well are LR3 amphoras dated to the mid 6th century AD. It is observed that the layers in which the materials were found also partially formed a chronological structure. The data on the intensive use of the well supports the coins recovered from the well. Almost all of the coins belong to the second half of the 4th and the first half of the 5th century AD. These data for dating revealed similarities with other materials recovered from the Roman villa.
