INVESTIGATION OF WATER AND SOLVENT BASED PATENT FILM CHARACTERISTICS
Project no. 702 · Status: Kapanmış · 2015
Summary
It is expected that, the quality of products must not be affected while environmentally friendly chemicals are being used for the leather industry due to mandatory environmental legislations. In the present study, water based patent finishing was used instead of solvent based patent finishing which is widely applied for upper leathers. Patent finishing films with 1.367 cm2/second, 1.944 cm2/second , and 2.522 cm2/second viscosities were applied to the leather surfaces by roller coating machine with standard finishing recipe, then the leather samples were evaluated in according to the related standards. Subsequent to accelerated aging process, samples were tested in terms of tensile strength, elongation at break, flexibility, air permeability, rub fastness, heat resistance and water spotting characteristics. Test results revealed that, the patent film with 194.46cSt viscosity provided the best result among the water based patent finishing films.
