In vivo Investigation of Potential Use of Asidophilus Milk and Propolis in Cancer Treatment
Project no. 762 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
In this research, the antitumor effect of acidophilus milk and propolis in the mouse breast cancer model was investigated in vivo. While cancer treatments include treatment methods such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy, immunotherapy has been added to these methods in recent years. Immunotherapy is known to suppress tumor formation by modulating the immune system of the host. In the research, in order to determine the antitumor effects acidophilus milk and propolis, firstly in vitro experiments were carried out and the IC50 value for propolis on 4T1 cell line was determined as 129 µg / mL. For in vivo experiments Balb /c mice injected with 4T1 cells (2x105 cells / mouse) were fed with gavage propolis (66 mg / kg) and / or acidophilus milk (108 cfu / ml) for 14 days. During the study the weights of the mice were weighed. At the end of the study, the tumor sizes were measured with caliper. The proliferation of sphenocytes which collected from mice was measured. Spleen cell culture and CD8+ T cell response was analyzed by flow cytometry. The results were determined according to the control group. The best anti-tumor effect was obtained by the combined use of acidophilus and propolis.
