Synthesis of environmentally friendly adsorbent and its use to remove methylene blue from water
Project no. 28529 · Status: Kapanmış · 2023
Summary

In recent years, the direct release of wastewater containing dyes into the ecosystem has become an important environmental problem. Leakage of industrial wastes containing dyes, especially from the textile, pharmaceutical and printing industries, into the ecosystem has negative effects on water reserves. Methylene blue (MB), one of the dyestuffs in question, has a wide application area in industry as a coloring and dyeing agent. However, releasing MB into the ecosystem without removing it from industrial wastes has negative effects on the environment and human health. The adsorption method has been recognized as one of the most effective techniques for treating wastewater. In recent years, great efforts have been made by scientists to produce highly selective and effective adsorbents. With our proposed study, polymers will be synthesized with environmentally friendly materials that minimize the use of toxic and harmful chemicals. In this way, chemical processes, materials and products that may harm the environment will be minimized and their use in society will be widespread. The removal of MB dyestuff from aqueous solution will be investigated with the environmentally friendly and superior adsorbent to be synthesized. To determine the effectiveness of the environmentally friendly adsorbent we will synthesize and to determine the MB sorption mechanism, Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms will be studied and the adsorption capacity will be determined. Additionally, kinetic models (pseudo-first and second order) will be evaluated at different initial MB concentrations to determine the sorption kinetics. In order to investigate whether the sorbent can be reused to remove methylene blue from water, the desorption of dyestuffs and the regeneration of the sorbent will be examined. In this way, it will be examined whether the sorbent to be synthesized is a suitable and economical choice for use in industrial processes. Considering the limited accessibility of high-quality clean water resources and human health concerns, it is very important to realize our project in terms of water recycling and purification of industrial waste.
