Nanofibrous composite membranes for fuel cells

Project no. 21411 · Status: Kapanmış · 2020

Summary

Fuel cells bring an environmentally friendly approach to the world's increasing energy needs compared to conventional methods and most of their competitors, and the industry is highly open to development. Studies on fuel cells with polymer electrolyte membranes, which are a member of the fuel cells family, have been gaining momentum lately, and these studies focus on polymer electrolyte membranes. Within the scope of this project, the performance properties of nanofiber polymer electrolyte membranes produced with different stabilization methods, especially proton conductivity and methanol permeability, were investigated to investigate their potential for use in fuel cells. The proton conductivity of the physically stabilized PVA filled PVA/Nafion nanofiber composite membranes was found to be 12.396 mS/cm, and the methanol permeability was 1.5x10-6 cm2s-1. The best methanol permeability result was found to be 1.5x10-6 cm2s-1 in chemically stabilized membranes. As a result, the potential of PVA/Nafion based nanofiber composite membranes to be a suitable alternative with performance properties close to commercial Nafion membranes, ease of production and cost advantages has been demonstrated.
