Summary

Metabolites produced by the microbiota have recently been measured to assess the evolution of the microbiota. Primary metabolites produced by the microbiota are examined in two groups as carbohydrate and protein origin. One of the protein-derived metabolites, p-cresol is produced in the intestines from tyrosine and phenylalanine, and indole tryptophan. They are then absorbed and conjugated with sulfate in the liver. Produced p-cresol sulfate, indoxyl sulfate is excreted in the urine. Since these metabolites are produced only by intestinal bacteria, they are an indicator of microbiota. Studies have shown that Bifidobacteria dominate the intestinal microbiota content of breastfed newborns within 10 days. P-cresol is a metabolite produced by bifidobacteria whereas indole is not produced by bifidobacteria. However, these markers have not been studied in newborns before, and it is not known whether they cause a significant difference due to normal levels or Bifidobacterium being the predominant species in the newborn microbiota. In this study; Since obesity affects the microbiota, healthy mothers born in EUTF Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic, healthy term babies (>37 weeks) born from these mothers with C/S and healthy mothers with BMI<30, born with C/S from these mothers preterm babies (33-37 weeks) will be included in the study. Stool sample or rectal swab, blood, cord blood during delivery or blood and stool samples will be taken from the mothers who accepted the study after obtaining a voluntary consent form, on the 1st and 7th-10th days after birth. At the same time, hemogram and urea and creatinine values obtained from all mothers who gave birth with C/S will be recorded. Since P-cresol sulfate and indoxyl sulfate are excreted in the urine and are defined as uremic toxins, the urea and creatinine values of the patients will be recorded. In blood samples; urea, creatinine, p-cresol sulfate, indoxyl sulfate in stool/rectal swab samples from mothers and newborns; Bifidobacterium will be measured. The collected data will be compared with the microbiota of healthy term and preterm newborns and the effect of preterm birth on the microbiota will be investigated.
