DETERMINATION OF ENDOPHYTE FUNGAL SPECIES FROM HURMA OLIVES IN KARABURUN PENINSULA, IZMIR
Project no. 445 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017
Summary
Hurma olive is an olive species that is offered to consumers after ripening on the olive branch and seen only in Karaburun Peninsula in Turkey. While the olive grains are in the trees, they can be eaten by maturing with the help of the ecological conditions of the region. It has been emphasized that this situation has been carry out with Phoma oleae, which has infected the grains since it is still on the tree. In this study, endophytic fungus was isolated from the interior and the flesh of the olives and the different fungal species were isolated. Endophytes are known as living organisms that are colonized in the living internal tissues of plants and without causing any significant symptoms. In our study, endophytic fungi isolated from Hurma olive samples collected from Karaburun Peninsula in Izmir were identified with phenotypic and genotypic methods. In addition, endophytic fungus was isolated from olive samples collected from other regions for comparison and endophytic fungal species were determined. As a result of the phenotypic and genotypic identification, the species we identified from the isolates of Hurma olive samples; Stemphylium vesicarium, Stagonosporopsis cucurbitacearum, Dothiora oleae, Rhizopus stolonifer, Penicillium chrysogenum and Bartalinia sp. The species identified from the isolates of other non-Hurma olive samples were Alternaria alternata and Cladosporium ramotenellum. As in previous studies, the fungal species isolated from Hurma which is an olive species is more rich than the other non-Hurma olive species. This shows us that the variety of endophytic fungal species in Hurma olives is high. Endophytic species biotechnology etc. is also important. The species we have identified may be a potential producer of biotechnologically important products. In this sense, our study will shed light on the works related to the products to be produced from these organisms in the future.
