Relationship Between Circulating MicroRNA and Muscle Injury in Football Players
Project no. 23611 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2022
Summary

Aim: The aim is to determine the relationship between muscle injury and miRNA (microRNA) to predict potential muscle injuries in athletes beforehand. The goal is to enhance preventive exercises against muscle injuries in the training programs of athletes at risk, thereby mitigating economic and sporting losses.

Method: The research was conducted with professional healthy football players attending the Department of Sports Medicine at Ege University along with 100 volunteers who had professional muscle injuries. It was planned as a cross-sectional prospective study.

Results: The study was completed with 50 participants in the study group and 50 in the control group. Following the study, no statistical difference was found between the levels of miRNA 1 and miRNA 133b in the group with muscle injury and the group without muscle injury (p: 0.46; p: 0.36). It was demonstrated that the expression levels of miRNA 16 significantly decreased in the group with muscle injury compared to the group without muscle injury (p < 0.05). Additionally, in the group with muscle injury, the levels of miRNA 133a were statistically shown to increase in expression to a different degree compared to the group without muscle injury (p < 0.05)

Conclusion: According to our research, there exists a significant difference in the levels of circulating miRNA 16 and miRNA 133a between professional football players with and without muscle injuries
