Project no. 23758 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2022
Summary

Within the scope of this study, modifiable/dopable nanobiocomposites have been developed and synthesized for the removal of cesium and strontium radionuclides from aqueous environments. The synthesized nanobiocomposites are based on graphene oxide and alginate, where one component of the nanocomposite adsorbent material is graphene oxide, which possesses high mechanical strength, superior thermal and electrical conductivity, and high flexibility, while the other component is alginate, a biologically derived material obtained from brown seaweed. By incorporating additional third components and employing different synthesis methods, nanobiocomposite adsorbents were produced and tested for their applicability in removing cesium and strontium radionuclides from aqueous environments using batch adsorption systems. Within the project, the synthesized nanobiocomposite adsorbents were characterized using instrumental analysis methods such as SEM-EDS, XRD, and FT-IR.

The adsorption behavior of the adsorbents developed for the removal of strontium and cesium from aqueous solutions was modelled and analyzed using Full Factorial Experimental Design (FFED), considering the effects of fundamental experimental parameters such as solution pH, radionuclide concentration, temperature, and contact time.

In order to understand the adsorption mechanism, various isotherm models were applied, and the parameters of these models were calculated. In addition, thermodynamic parameters were also calculated to evaluate the thermodynamic properties of the adsorption process.
