Investigations on Germination and Improving Seedling Performance of Primrose (Primula vulgaris L.) Seeds
Project no. 1107 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017
Summary
It is aimed to determine the effects of calibration, pre-chilling, coating, KNO3, GA3 and drum priming and combinations of these applications on seed germination/emergence rates and mean germination/emergence time of primula acualis (primrose) seeds and the quality characteristics of seedlings obtained after these applications. This study was carried out in 2017-2020 between E.U. Seed Technology Application and Research Center (TOTEM) and Ege University Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture laboratory. Untreated (control), Calibration, Pre-chilling, Drum priming (KNO3), Drum priming (GA3), Priming (KNO3) 24 h, Priming (KNO3) 48 h, Priming (KNO3) 72 h, Priming (GA3) 24 h , Priming (GA3) 48 h, Priming (GA3) 72 h, Priming (PEG 6000) 72 h, Priming PEG + Film Coating (-), Priming PEG + Film Coating (KNO3) and Priming PEG + Film Coating (GA3) applications at the end, it was determined that KNO3 effective drumpriming and PEG + film coating (KNO3) applications, especially osmopriming and priming applications with PEG 6000 and KNO3, had an important effect on the germination rate and mean germination time. In the seedling conditions of the study, priming (GA3) 72 hours and priming (KNO3) 48 hours seed treatments provided very early and rapid emergence. 86-87% emergence rate and an mean emergence time of 5.50-7.50 days were achieved with these treatments. Similarly, it was found that priming (GA3) 72 hours treatment, high leaf number (7.27 pieces), calibration and drumpriming (KNO3) applications formed high leaf diameter value (2.87-2.91 cm) and stem wet weight value (1.18 g). The high seedling root length was also obtained from the calibration application. It was determined that the applications were not effective on the leaf color.
