Summary
<p>Studies show that being bilingual and acute aerobic exercise lead to advantages in executive control processes. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the effect of moderate-intensity acute aerobic exercise manipulation on executive function control of bilingual and monolingual individuals. The research design was designed as 2 Interventions (exercise, control) X 2 Linguistics (monolingual, bilingual) X 2 Time (pretest, posttest). Bilingual and monolingual individuals completed the Flanker task fort he measurement of executive function just before and 15 minutes after the 30-minute moderate-intensity cycling exercise (aerobic exercise) condition, with the first 5 minutes warming up and the last minutes cooling down. When the mean response time difference (Flanker effect) of monolingual and bilingual individuals before and after acute aerobic exercise intervention was examined, it was observed that there was no significant difference. When the independent variable of linguistics was not examined, when the mean response times of individuals before and after exercise were examined for incongruent trials of the Flanker task, the findings were consistent with the literature, and it was found that exercise helped to shorten the reaction time. From this point of view, it is started that exercise is effective is against stimuli that create conflict in cognitive processess; however, it can be concluded that it is not effective against the time cost paid for switching between conflicting and non-conflicting stimuli. At the same time, it is though that more healthy and effective results will be found in future studies by examining the bilingualism variable in more structured forms.</p>
