KLAROS G SECTOR EXCAVATION AND RESEARCH PROJECT

Project no. 543 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016

Summary

Following the expropriation of the Klaros in 2014, excavations started in the G Sector which took its name from the grid where it was found. One of the two main cities to which the sanctuary is connected is the propylon on the side of Notion. In the last period excavations, important data about the construction of the southern area in both this area and Notion side were reached. However, in the northern part of the sanctuary, it was the first time that Kolophon, the main city to which it was connected, was carried out for the first time. As a result of the studies, a wall dating to the Archaic Period was unearthed under the structure of a temple probably belonging to the 3rd and 4th centuries BC. Although it is not possible to reach the boundaries of the buildings in limited time, it is concluded that the boundaries of the Archaic and Classical Period sanctuary continued in the north. A wide variety of finds, both architectural and ceramic, coins, figurines and metal objects, revealed a continuity here in terms of the sanctuary. In this way, it is on the agenda that the works carried out here are expanded and continued.
