TYPOLOGICAL AND PETROGRAPHIC EVALUATION OF BEYCESULTAN HÖYÜK MIDDLE BRONZE AGE CERAMİCS
Project no. 964 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017
Summary
Beycesultan Mound is an important center for understanding the Western Anatolian Middle Bronze Age process. Although the first excavations carried out in the mound in the 1950s made significant contributions to the understanding of the 2nd Millennium BC cultures of the region, the use of archaeometry in archeology has become more widespread in the last 60 years in addition to the newly developed excavation technologies, making it common to view the data obtained from archaeological finds from a wider perspective. Especially in addition to the typology used as the basic working method in ceramic studies, the chemical content analysis has provided a better understanding of the ceramic technology. Chemical analysis shows that Middle Bronze Age ceramics developed by showing continuity between the layers. There is also evidence that different clay deposits were used in Beycesultan and its surroundings.
