PROGNOSTIC ROLE OF WNT SIGNAL PATHWAY IN PARANASAL SINUS TUMORS

Project no. 142 · Status: Kapanmış · 2018

Summary

Paranasal sinus tumors constitute an important part of head and neck malignancies. Most of the paranasal sinus tumors are of epithelial origin and 80% of them are squamous cell carcinoma. WNT signaling pathway is an essential embryonic regulatory pathway that has been identified by increasing studies in recent years, where it plays an important role in many cancers, including head and neck cancers. However, there are a limited number of studies examining the effect of this pathway on paranasal sinus tumors. The aim of our study is to determine the changes in the paranasal sinus tumors of the regulatory genes of the WNT signal pathway through a sample with a high number of cases. For this purpose, in our study, total RNA isolation was performed from the pathological preparations of patients who were previously operated due to epithelial paranasal sinus tumor, and gene expression changes were evaluated with real-time RT-qPCR. As a result of the project, there was a significant decrease in the expression of 28 genes (fold change <2.00 and p value <0.05), and a significant increase in the expression of 23 genes (fold change <2.00 and p value <0.05). These results will provide a basis for further studies in molecular biology of paranasal sinus tumors, where genetic information is very limited.
