Development of Sport Protective Equipments Produced From Flat Knitted Spacer Fabrics

Project no. 1391 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017

Summary

In recent years, the fact that casual and sportswear having the best selling potential in the world, has increased the importance of this field for manufacturers and researchers. Awareness of consumers using sportswear during sports has also driven their attention for the use of sport protective equipments. Sport protective equipments are used to protect knee, elbow, wrist, shinbone, chest, etc., where the body can be damaged and exposed to impact during sports activities. These textile products are expected to have many features such as high performance, lightness and comfort as well as protection according to the performance and safety levels of the sports branch. Developments in textile technology enable the development of functional support products for different sports branches. The aim of this study is to develop protective equipments (kneepad, armrest, wristband, shinguard, chest guard, etc.) for different sport branches with sufficient impact protection and comfort characteristics. For this purpose, high performance and/or high comfort yarns were provided. These yarns and their combinations were used for the production of flat knitted spacer fabrics and the physical, comfort and impact resistance properties of these fabrics were investigated. According to the results, it can be stated that, Aramid-Coolmax® and PA HT-Coolmax® fabrics exhibit better impact protection performance and thermal comfort properties. Additionally, a kneepad and an armrest were developed by using Aramid-Coolmax® fabric.
