Determination of Heavy Metals in Nasal Cleansing Waters called as Nasal Spray / Ocean Water Spray / Saline Spray and Evaluation in terms of Toxicity
Project no. 472 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017
Summary
It is known that heavy metals are toxic and will cause fatal consequences when taken into the body at concentrations above the allowed limits. Heavy metals, unlike organic pollutants, are persistent and do not break down It is very important to determine the heavy metals and their concentrations, which are of vital importance in terms of threatening human health. For this purpose, heavy metal analysis has been chosen as a target in nasal sprays, which are frequently used by young children. This type of screening has not yet been encountered in saline-containing nasal water sprays, which are frequently used for children and are generally considered harmless due to the absence of drug active ingredients. This study was the first in its subject. The aim of the study is to perform the analysis of heavy metals (aluminum, antimony, arsenic, copper, boron, zinc, iron, cadmium, cobalt, chromium, lead, manganese, nickel, silicon) in nasal sprays containing only NaCl as an active ingredient and has had consequences. In the light of the obtained information and evaluations, some of the elements considered to be toxic concentrations were found above the drinking water limits. Considering that the sprays are taken into the body from the region close to the brain, it should be considered that the possibility of risk should also be taken into account, although some may have concentrations below the limits. The analysis aimed at this project was carried out and such a study was conducted for the first time in the literature. In the presence of this information, the results obtained will be the subject of new projects and will pave the way for new studies in order to make health evaluations.
