Summary

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common cause of anovulatory infertility in women. It is estimated to negatively affect around 10% of women of childbearing age. PCOS leads to a wide range of menstrual irregularities, from amenorrhea to menorrhagia, due to excess androgens. Several studies have reported significant contributions of oxidative stress and inflammation related to ischemia to the pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome. Oxidative stress is currently defined as an imbalance in favor of oxidants over antioxidants, leading to disruption of redox signaling and molecular damage. Among the various factors, oxidative stress has been extensively studied as a potential factor in the etiology of PCOS over the last decade. Ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) is one of these oxidative stress products. In our study, we will compare the levels of IMA in the blood and follicular fluid of infertile patients with PCOS and those without PCOS who will undergo IVF treatment, and we will compare their IVF success rates. While there are studies in the literature investigating IMA levels in the serum of infertile patients with PCOS, it has not been previously studied in follicular fluid. Our study is unique in this regard and may have the potential to contribute to the success of IVF treatment in patients with PCOS.
