RESEARCHES ON GERMINATION AND EMERGENCE PERFORMANCE ENHANCING TREATMENTS ON SOME LEGUMINOUS FORAGE CROPS’ SEEDS

Project no. 1074 · Status: Kapanmış · 2015

Summary

In the study, feed peas, common vetch and hairy vetch seeds, which are among the most common forage crops, were used as plant material. In order to improve the germination and emergence performance of these seeds and to provide a fast and homogenous emergence, some germination enhancing preliminary applications were made to the seeds. For this purpose preliminary experiments were carried out to determine the appropriate application dose, time and temperature. Then; Polymer coating, polymer coating + KNO3, polymer coating + GA3, priming, priming + polymer coating, priming + polymer coating + KNO3, priming + polymer coating + GA3 applications were applied to each species's seeds. According to results; germination and emergence rates were lower than those of control seeds by pure polymer application. However, the actual effectiveness of polymer application has arisen in combined applications, especially due to the spreading adhesive effect. This is why priming + polymer coating + GA3 applications resulted in the highest germination and emergence rate. GA3 application enhanced the positive effect of priming on germination as well as overcomed the negative effect of polymer coating on germination and emergence. Key words: vetch, forage pea, priming, polymer coating, KNO3, GA3
