Project no. 21165 · Status: Kapanmış · 2020
Summary
Young Farmer Project (Genç Çiftçi Projesi) was implemented between 2016 and 2018 to ensure sustainability in agriculture, to support the entrepreneurship of young farmers, to increase the income level, to create alternative sources of income and to support rural agricultural production projects that will contribute to the employment of young people in rural areas. This research aims to determine whether the Young Farmer Project (Genç Çiftçi Projesi), which has been implemented for 3 years, is successful or not, and to develop new criteria that will increase the success of the project by determining the entrepreneurial characteristics of granted young farmers. The main material of the study was the data which was generated by 109 face-to-face interviews who received grants Young Farmer Project (Genç Çiftçi Projesi) in Izmir Province. Simple statistical analysis, absolute and proportional distributions, crosstables, arithmetic means and statistical comparison methods were used in the analysis of the data. Besides, the entrepreneurship character scale prepared by Chye Koh (1996) was used to determine the entrepreneurship levels of the interviewed young farmers. In line with the data we obtained as a result of the study, the "Young Farmer Project (Genç Çiftçi Projesi)" was successful despite some shortcomings. The most important of these shortcomings is the insufficient amount of the grant. Consistent with the findings obtained within the scope of the research, a similar project was implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry under the name of “Expert Hand Project in Rural Development (Kırsal Kalkınmada Uzman Eller Projesi)” between 2019-2020. In this project, the amount of grant was increased and it was opened to applications only for those who have education in agriculture-related fields. In other words, the most important shortcomings of the Young Farmer Project (Genç Çiftçi Projesi) have been regulated and the success of the grant holders has been increased. The long-term implementation of such projects is very important in terms of both developing rural areas and creating employment for rural youth. As rural areas develop and young people are prevented from migrating to urban areas, it will be easier to ensure the sustainability of agriculture.
