Investigation of the Effect of Fabric Structures and Design Details Used in Medical Protective Coveralls on Thermal Comfort
Project no. 24027 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2022
Summary

Protective coveralls have been used by healthcare workers for various purposes for many years. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of these coveralls increased significantly worldwide. Upon examining the available protective coveralls on the market and previous studies in this field, it has been observed that these garments are generally produced without considering the comfort of healthcare workers. During the project preparation phase, interviews with healthcare professionals revealed that users experience excessive sweating while wearing these coveralls, which leads to skin irritation. This siruation highlights the importance of developing protective equipment that healthcare workers can use without discomfort or anxiety. As a result, the topic addressed in this project has become a focal point for both academics and businesses involved in manufacturing in this field. The proposed project aims to enhance the wearing comfort performance of protective coveralls worn by healthcare workers for extended periods. In this regard, new protective coverall models have been developed. Initially, textile surfaces commonly used in the production of protective coveralls were sourced, and fabric tests were conducted on these surfaces. Additionally, assembling and production methods, as well as auxiliary materials to be used in the manufacturing of the coveralls, were tested. Consequently, the most suitable parameters for producing coveralls that provide the highest thermal comfort were determined. The thermal comfort properties of the newly designed and manufactured coveralls were tested using a thermal manikin, based on the tests and model developments conducted.
