The Prevalence And Effects of B-RAF Mutation On Prognosis Of Childhood Thyroid Papillary Carcinoma
Project no. 20759 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2019
Summary
Aim of the Study:BRAFV600E mutation is a predictor of aggressive behavior in adulthood papillary thyroid cancer(PTC). We aimed to evaluate the effects of BRAFV600E mutation and tumor subtype in pediatric PTC. Methods:BRAFV600E mutation analysis was performed on patients operated between 2006-2018. Pathological findings were compared between mutation positive/negative groups and tumor subtypes. Main results:42 patients were analysed with a median age of 14 years old(5-17 years). Four patients(9.5%) were positive for BRAFV600E mutation. Slightly more aggressive findings were seen in mutation-positive group(Table.1). However, despite a rational difference, the patient numbers in each group inhibits statistical analysis(4 vs 38). In patients with conventional-subtype, a significant aggressive behavior was seen according to follicular-variants(p<0.05). Conclusion:A lower incidence of BRAFV600E mutation was detected in our series according to adulthood. Larger patient numbers are necessary to make strong conclusions about the effects of this mutation in pediatric PTC. Conventional subtype has a more aggressive clinical behavior compared to follicular variant.
