Investigation of the interaction between flowering time and salt stress tolerance regulation the cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS)

Project no. 431 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017

Summary

The completion of the evolutionary processes of plants depends on their successful transition from vegetative development to reproduction. In addition, flowering taking part in the reproductive pathway in the life of plants, also has a critical role in the development process. Significant loss of seed productivity and production was found when plants were exposed to stress during this process. GIGANTEA (GI) gene crucial regulator of flowering time, also it has play an important role in stress conditions. Furthermore, GI gene plays an essential role in the tolerance developed against salt stress. In addition, it found that it provides tolerance to GI mutants in salt stress, but it is susceptible to salt stress in GI mutants that are highly expressed. In the literature, limited information found about how the cell redox balance under salt stress changes in this regulation or how the sweeping mechanisms of the reactive oxygen species in the cell work and there is not much work on this subject. Therefore, to clarify the redox balance of GI in salt stress, GI mutants were treated with salt in different concentrations for 7 days. The plants harvested thereafter; relative water content, ROS formation (H2O2 content), lipid peroxidation were determined. Antioxidant defense systems SOD, CAT, CELL WALL POX, POX, APOX, GR were determined. As a consequence, in this study, cellular redox status and ROS scavenging enzyme mechanisms of Arabidopsis thaliana Col., GI-OX and gi-4 mutants, which were exposed to salt stress, were compared for the first time.
