Summary

In this thesis study, high thermal conductivity of carbon and aluminum nitride materials were used to successfully produce thermoplastic composite materials with high thermal conductivity in-plane and through plane. PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) was used as the polymer material. Single and double, triple, and quadruple hybrid added PBT-based composite granules are made of synthetic graphite (0-40 % ), carbon fiber (0-40 % ), aluminum nitride (1, 2, 3 %), and carbon nanotube (0.1, 0.3, 0.5 %) were mixed into the molten PBT polymer in a co-rotating, twin screw extruder and composite granules were obtained with a pasta type. DSC, TGA and density determination tests were performed on the obtained granules. Then, tensile, bending and impact tests were performed on the standard composite samples obtained from the granules and the thermal conductivity values were measured. The morphology of the fracture surfaces of the tensile tested specimens were examined by SEM analysis. In composite materials, the highest thermal conductivity values are 13.57 and 6.54 W/mK in-plane direction and through plane, respectively, in the 20% SG, 20% CF, 1% AIN and 0.5% CNT filled PBT composite. The thermal conductivity values of the PBT in-plane direction and through plane by approximately 7142% and 3442%, respectively.
