Synthesis and Cytotoxic Activities of Nitron NHC Complexes
Project no. 23566 · Status: Kapanmış · 2022
Summary

The importance of organometallic complexes in cancer biology has attracted attention in recent years. For the last 30 years, N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) compounds have demonstrated their importance in organometallic chemistry with their unique structures, steric and electronic properties. The fact that they can be easily derivatized over two nitrogen atoms and that the structures in the backbones can be changed appropriately make NHCs important. Cancer is still an important health problem for humanity. One of the main reasons for cancer research for a new, more selective anticancer agent is the undesirable effects of conventional chemotherapy drugs. However, it is difficult to design a molecule that has no (or small) effect on normal cells but can selectively inhibit the proliferation of cancerous cells. One of the most important parameters in cell transport is the lipophilicity and solubility of the drug. Especially NHC compounds are suitable compounds to overcome these problems. This project is concerned with the synthesis of nitrone NHC (N-heterocyclic carbene) complexes and the study of their cytotoxic activities in various cancer cell lines. It will be used in HeLa (Human cervix adenocarcinoma epithelial), PC3 (Human prostate), MCF-7 (Human breast) cell lines to investigate the anticarcinogenic effects of metal complexes synthesized from NHC compounds. The effect of the metal difference (platinum and ruthenium) in the NHC compound on the activity was investigated.
