Constant volume tanks, pressure gauges and power meters are used to determine pump characteristics in traditional test units. Beside, evaluation time in these methods takes much time and determination of important characteristic values for each pump can not be done precisely. Magnetic and ultrasonic flow meters, pressure transmitters and power analyzers were developed depending on the developments in electronics and computer technology. In this study, errors and inconveniences resulted either from the measurement devices or methods occurring in traditional tests units were investigated according to the international standards, and computer aided test unit was developed which reduces errors by eliminating the inconveniences of traditional test units. The developed test unit is transportable and could be used for testing both centrifugal and vertical shaft pumps (deep well and submersible pump). Total errors were found 0.76% and 0.73% in developed centrifugal and submersible pump test units, respectively. These results indicate that the new developed test unit can be used for ISO 2548 C class, ISO 3555 B class and ISO 5198 A class tests. Results, obtained from the calculation of the measured data with the help of computer aided test unit can be transferred to computer for displaying and logging. Test results are taken more precisely in a short time with the help of developed test unit.
