Özet

Metropolis, located in Ionia, which now falls within the Torbalı District of İzmir

Province in western Turkey; has persisted throughout the ages thanks to the fertile

lands within its borders. At the intersection of trade routes that came down from

Central Anatolia to Western Anatolia, and from the Northern Aegean to the South;

the city’s primary sources of income were agriculture and trade. Remains uncovered

during archaeological research indicate that the people of Metropolis lived prosperous

lives, especially during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. This book presents the

archaeological features and small finds of Peristyle House, the private residence of a

wealthy family that lived in Metropolis, in the form of a detailed report. All results

were obtained from archaeological research conducted between 2007 and 2010, and

in 2018. Since the house was used for a long time during the Roman period, it was

expanded at different times, or the functions of the rooms were changed. This has made

it possible to better understand the phases that domestic architecture has gone through.

In addition, the various small finds that were uncovered help significantly in depicting

the life of a family that lived in Metropolis during the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. In this

work, we attempt to evaluate all of these findings in detail, and within social context.
