Özet

In silages made from corn and sorghum species, the silage protein ratio ranges between 7-10%. This rate,

which symbolizes a relatively low value, is also possible to increase naturally by silage together with

legume forage crops.

The experiment was carried out to evaluate on the effects of different levels (25 and 50%, based on dry

matter) of various leguminous (Lathyrus sativus, Pisum arvense, Vicia sativa, V.villosa, V.faba var. minor

and Trifolium resupinatum) hays added to switch grass (Panicum virgatum) at ensilage on the silage

quality and nutritive value.

Fifty-two vacuumed nylon bag silos were used. A complete randomized design was used with four

replications. After 60 days of ensilage period, some properties of silages were determined considering dry

matter (DM) content, pH values, crude protein (CP) and ash content.

The results demonstrated that there were statistically significant differences between the added groups for

above-mentioned traits compared to the control. pH values of silages increased as levels of hays increased.

The addition of leguminous hays of 25% or 50% to silage increased crude protein content about 2% or 5%

compared to the control (pure switch grass silage), respectively.

While the lowest pH value was 4.23 at the mixture with 50% switch grass + 50% forage pea, the highest

pH is 5.37 it has been observed that it belongs to 50% switch grass + 50% Persian clover silage.

The highest dry matter content was 27.7% at the pure switch grass silage (100% switch grass + 0%

legume). In 50% switch grass + 50% Persian clover silage; dry matter content was the lowest (20,5%).

Crude protein (CP) content of the silages increased by increasing rate of legumes. While the minimum

crude protein content was found in the pure switch grass silage (%6.8), the highest crude protein

concentration (12.3%) was obtained from the mixture with 50% switch grass + 50% common vetch.

The highest crude ash content is in the mixture 10.2% (50% switch grass + 50% Persian clover silage,

while the lowest content is 6.8% (50% switch grass + 50% horse bean. ) belongs to the mixture.

Keyword: Switch grass, leguminous hay, silage mixture and quality.
