Özet

Soil gas anomalies useful for getting information about natural processes through gases released from the earth's crust in metropolises with excessive urbanization. Radon (222Rn) and Thoron (220Rn) are very useful isotopes for geodynamic events such as earthquakes etc. Measurements of 220Rn and 222Rn activity concentrations in soil gas were carried out on the Balçova- Narlıdere segment of the Izmir Fault which is one of the most important active tectonic structures in Türkiye’s Active Fault Map. Due to very intense urbanization, there is limited studies in the literature related to the Izmir Fault Zone and its two segments. This study also discusses the usability of the 222Rn/220Rn ratio as a geodynamic precursor. Soil gas measurements were performed by RAD7 radon detector and RADH2O. The measured Radon (222Rn) and Thoron (220Rn) activity concentrations were between 965 and 17500, 2250 and 25750 Bq m-3 respectively. This study is supported by the TÜBİTAK 1001 Scientific and Technological Research Projects Support Program: Earthquake Research Call and by Basic Science Research Program-Project No: 121Y404.
