Özet

An investigation was carried out to analyze the chemical profiles, antioxidant, anticholinesterase, and cytotoxic activities of essential oils derived from Stachys sivasica and Stachys cataonica. The chemical components of essential oils were identified using Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Anticholinesterase and antioxidant activities including DPPH, ABTS and FRAP, were performed spectrophotometrically with 96-well microplate reader. Also, the MTT assay was used to assess the cytotoxic activities of the samples against MCF-7, MRC-5, HeLa, and LNCaP cell lines. The essential oil from S. sivasica (EOS) contained phytol (22.68%) and 2-methyl-1-pentene (14.72%) as the dominant compounds, while the major constituents of the essential oil from S. cataonica (EOC) were 16-kaurene (9.93%) and α-bisabolol (9.64%). EOS demonstrated notable radical scavenging activity, with IC50 values of 0.381 mg/mL for DPPH radicals and 0.868 mg/mL for ABTS radicals. In contrast, EOC displayed higher activity in the reducing assay (FRAP), with an IC50 value of 0.612 mg/mL. Furthermore, both EOS and EOC showed greater inhibitory activity against acetylcholinesterase compared to butyrylcholinesterase (IC50: 82.348 μg/mL and 61.205 μg/mL, respectively). Finally, EOC exhibited noteworthy cytotoxic activity against all cell lines, while EOS demonstrated cytotoxic activity specifically against MCF-7 and MRC-5. These results indicate that the essential oils of both plants have the potential for further studies against Alzheimer’s disease and cancer.
