Özet

Zygomatic implants are used to restore function and aesthetics in patients with insufficient bone support in the upper jaw due to trauma, atrophy and sinus pneumatization. Zygoma implant is a product of remote bone anchorage concept with several advantages developed as an alternative to bone grafting. A 44-year-old woman was referred to a dental clinic our department because of functional and aesthetic problems. Clinical and radiographic examination revealed partial edentulism in the mandible with periodontal problems and a complete edentulous maxilla with sufficient bone height in the premaxilla for standard implants but insufficient bone height in the posterior region due to atrophy. The long duration and surgical steps of the grafting procedure and the advantages of the zygoma implant were explained to the patient and a joint treatment plan was determined. Two zygoma implants (Zygoma, Novodent SA, Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland) were placed posteriorly and two standard implants (Implantswiss, Novodent SA, Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland) anteriorly to support a bar-retained overdenture. Final restorations were delivered six months after implant placement. Current literature describes the use of zygomatic implants to avoid disadvantages of a posterior grafting procedures in patients with in insufficient posterior maxillary bone. Use of zygoma implants offers an acceptable non-grafting option in patient rehabilitation. Treatment alternative with zygoma implant is well documented and has survival rates of 98-100%. Use of zygomatic implants seems to be an effective and reliable treatment alternative in the treatment of patients with atrophic maxilla.
