Summary

Specimens of the striped red mullet (Mullus surmuletus) were caught monthly by trawl surveys carried out between 2005 and 2007 in Izmir Bay. In this study, age composition, growth parameters and reproduction features of totally 192 individuals were examined. All individuals ranged from 6.6 cm to 22.6 cm in total lengths and from 3.40 g to 166.70 g in total weight. The maximum observed age was 6 for all specimens. The length-weight relationships were estimated as W=0.0083*L-3.127 (r=0.980). The von Bertalanffy growth equations for length were found as L-t=27.85 (1-(e-0.193(t+ 1,578))) for sex combined. The growth performance index value (phi') was computed as 2.175 for all specimens. The monthly values of the Gonadosomatic index indicated that spawning occurred in spring.
