Özet

The aim of this survey is to determine the growth parameters and some bioecological features of red mullet (Mullus barbatus L., 1758) popu-lation distributed in the bight of Gulbahce. Certain basic biological pa-rameters of red mullet such as sex, length (L), weight (W), age, distri-butions and rates, length–weight relationships (LWR) and age–length relationships, von Bertalanffy growth parameters, and age–sex compo-sitions of females acquired in bottom trawlings by EGESUF research vessel during March to December 2011 in the bight of Gulbahce in the Aegean Sea were analyzed. The age of 626 red mullets was found to range from 0 to III. Regarding sex, 48.08% of the acquired fish were females and 36.58% of them were males; the sex of 15.34% of the fish could not be determined. Fork length of all fish was found to range from 5.1 to 15.3 cm, and their weight ranged from 1.72 to 67.72 g. von Bertalanffy growth parameters of the red mullet population were as follows: L∞ = 18.4 cm, W∞ = 127.58 g, k = 0.62 year−1, and t0 = −0.91 years. The b values of length–weight relationships were found to be 3.152 for females, 3.188 for males, and 3.201 for total specimens. Results also revealed a positive allometric growth for females, males, and all specimens.
