Özet

Medicinal and aromatic plants are used extensively in modern and traditional medicine. Turkey is home to many plants with this feature due to its geographical location and climate. Medicinal sage (Salvia officinalis L.) is one of these plants. This research was conducted in a laboratory environment between 2019-2020. Sage seeds stored under controlled conditions for different periods (1, 3 and 5 years) were studied. Some physical (shape-size, surface area, average arithmetic and geometric diameter, sphericity and thousand grain weight) and physiological (germination percentage and time) characteristics of these seeds were investigated. Sage seeds have a short and oval structure; although the genetic characteristics of the seeds were preserved as the storage period was extended, it was determined that the germination ability of the seeds decreased. With this study, it is recommended that producers use their seeds for up to 3 years for the production of sage in economic terms.
