Özet
The long-term success of implant overdentures is dependent on both stability of implants and preoperative planning of the implant locations to reduce the risk of complications. This follow-up case series present the importance of preoperative planning and rehabilitation of 16 edentulous patients using locator attachments with implant-retained overdentures. Sixteen patients underwent radiographic-intraoral examinations, and preoperative planning before being referred to the surgical department. Preoperative plannings were as follows: Six patients received 4 maxillary, 2 mandibular; four patients 4 mandibular; six patients 2 mandibular implants. Following osseointegration, locator abutments were chosen at appropriate gingival height and torqued. The impressions were made, overdentures were fabricated and applied. At 1-6-months follow-ups, two patients expressed dissatisfaction because of posterior elevation of the mandible overdenture. More implants are planned to these patients to overcome this dissatisfaction since their arches were wide and in rectangular shape. One patient opted for a fixed prosthesis, adding 4 implants to their existing 2 in mandible while the other patient added 2 more implants having a total of 4 in mandible. The cap replacement was needed for 3 patients after 6 months. Overdentures are cost-effective for edentulous patients, improving satisfaction by increasing chewing efficiency, retention and stability. Additional implants may be necessary in cases of insufficient preoperative planning, particularly in wide and long arches. Effective preoperative planning is crucial for the long-term success, improving aesthetics, and retention. The combination of prosthetic and surgical planning in a multidisciplinary approach proved to be effective, improving patient satisfaction and minimizing potential complications.
