Özet

One of the foremost environmental issues arising from technological advancements, increasing population density, urbanization, and industrialization is the disposal of wastewater. In recent years, the use of the aquatic plant Lemna minor in wastewater treatment has been increasingly prevalent. Among the main reasons for using duckweed in wastewater treatment are its high protein content, rapid growth rate, and low fiber content, resulting in the production of a high-quality product by improving the water. This study aims to determine the pollutant removal capacity using L. minor aquatic plants in municipal wastewater. For this purpose, samples of L. minor obtained from enriched water lentil culture in Hoagland nutrient medium at the Aquatic Plants Laboratory of the Fisheries Faculty of Ege University in Urla facility for 15 days were placed in 1000 ml plastic containers with a total volume of 250 ml containing 5 cm height of wastewater. In the control group, only wastewater was used. Trials were conducted in triplicate in municipal wastewater. During the trials, the water temperature was maintained at 24±1℃ and daylight LED lamps with a 16:8 hour light-dark photoperiod were used for illumination. At the end of the experiment, the physicochemical parameters of the inlet and outlet water were determined as follows: pH (7.1-8.2 mg/L), COD (210-90 mg/L), NH4+-N (79-58 mg/L), NO3-N (26-13 mg/L), PO43-P (16-9 mg/L). The study demonstrated that L. minor is highly effective in wastewater treatment.
