Özet

Parental oral health knowledge about oral care and health care utilization is crucial for improving children's oral health. This study aimed to develop a Scenario-Based Oral Health Literacy Scale for Parents (SOHLS-P) of preschool children based on the multidimensional conceptual framework of oral health literacy (OHL). The study involved three stages: (1) Items generation, (2) Face and content validity of the SOHLS-P using e-Delphi method (3) Pretesting of scale using the semi-structured interview with 24 parents of preschool children. In the first stage of the study, three main topics (root canal treatment, use of fluoride, and diet) were identified by research team and drafted three scenarios in the health-relevant areas (health care, disease prevention, health promotion). Each scenario consisted of 5 questions rated on a 4-point scale into the four information processing stages (access, understand, appraise, apply) and basic knowledge. A two-round Delphi study was conducted with 7 experts to assess the clarity, relevance, and necessity of SOHLS-P scenarios, items, and response options. Response rates were 100% in all rounds. After round one, one scenario and eight items were modified. In the second round, experts reached more than 75% of agreement. In the pretesting, all parents found the scenarios understandable and 73% of them found the response options clear and understandable. 96% of parents found the questions relevant to the scenario. The 15-item SOHLS-P appears a valid representation of multidimensional nature of OHL, in terms of content validity. Further research on the psychometric properties of the SOHLS-P is needed.
