Özet
This multicenter registry study is designed to evaluate the mortality rate and the related risk factors in a multicenter hospital setting in Turkey. We have retrospectively evaluated 1500 COVID-19 adults, from 26 centers in 16 different provinces, hospitalized between 1st March and 31st July, 2020. Of the study group, 1041 and 459 cases were diagnosed, as definite and highly probable cases, respectively. 993 (66.2%) patients were RT-PCR positive. Of all cases, 1144 (76.3%) were diagnosed as non-severe pneumonia, whereas 212 (14.1%) had severe pneumonia. Death occurred in 67 patients with a mortality rate of 4.5% (95% CI: 3.5-5.6). The univariate analysis demonstrated that various factors including male gender, age ≥ 65 years, presence of dyspnea or confusion, malignant disease, chronic obstructive lung disease, interstitial lung disease, immunosuppressive conditions, severe pneumonia, multi-organ dysfunction, sepsis were positively associated with mortality. Favipiravir, hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin was not associated with survival. Multivariate analysis showed that male gender, severe pneumonia, multi-organ dysfunction, malignancy, sepsis and interstitial lung diseases were independent risk factors for mortality. Regarding biomarkers, procalcitonin level on the 3rd-5th day of admission had the strongest association with mortality (OR: 6.18; 1.6-23.93). This study has demonstrated that the mortality rate in hospitalized patients in the early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic was a serious threat, that patients with male gender, severe pneumonia, multi-organ dysfunction, malignancy, sepsis and interstitial lung diseases were at an increased risk and that they should be more closely monitored.
