Summary

The gas phase oxidation of benzene over a V2O5 + P2O5 + MoO3 + Sb2O3 catalyst supported on kieselguhr carrier is studied at the temperature range 344–393°C. 14 different kinetic models are tried to determine the mechanism of benzene oxidation. It is shown that benzene oxidation takes place via a two step redox mechanism which is first order with respect to benzene and 1/2 or 1st order with respect to oxygen. Rate constants for both models are presented.
