This study presents an experimental and numerical investigation of the lateral load-displacement behavior of monopiles embedded in soft clay. Small-scale field loading tests were performed on composite monopiles formed by casting concrete within steel sections. Rapid loading was applied at the pile head to induce an undrained soil response representative of short-term loading conditions. The measured load-displacement curves were used for validation of finite element models developed in the OpenSeesPL framework. Soil behavior was represented using the Pressure Independent Multi Yield (PIMY) constitutive model to capture the undrained response of cohesive soils. In addition, the soil-pile interface was explicitly modeled, and its representation was validated against experimental observations. The influence of interface material properties and finite element size on the predicted response was investigated. Following validation, the experimental results were interpreted using appropriate scaling laws to estimate the lateral load capacity and displacement response at prototype scale. The derived responses were then compared with p-y curves available in the literature. Overall, the combined experimental and numerical results provide improved insight into the behavior of laterally loaded piles in soft clays.
