Summary
States levy tax under various headings in order to develop and make investments for the future. These topics are divided into general groups such as socio-cultural elements, commercial and other economic activities, military service and security-related measures, states of emergency. The tax issue, which is serious in the period when states are weakened and in search of financial resources; made Ottoman Empire occupied during 19th century. As such; more importance has been given to recording the incomes of people living in the neighborhood and in the cot, which are the smallest units within the administrative structure. The records kept according to the household account have created the document called the “temettuat registers”.In this study; Gercekli and Ayasuret villages, which were connected to Birgi Nahiye during the Ottoman period, were examined on the basis of the temettuat registers dated 1845. In the “Introduction” section, the source (temettuat registers), which is the focus of our study, is examined. The first part, which starts later, deals with the historical course of the Gercekli and Ayasuret Villages. The chapter, written in accordance with the main sources of history, was supported by maps and tables. Then, the main part of the study was passed and the Gercekli and Ayasuret villages were considered in the light of the temettuat registers. The study, which contains many charts, tables and maps, was concluded with a “Result” in which a general assessment was made. The original version of the temettuat registers dated 1845 is given in the “Appendices” section of the work.
