Özet

The current trend in structural health monitoring is to measure vibrational data from the structure, process them via various numerical tools, and finally print out visual values for the investigator. This strategy has been and is increasingly improving. The current study is an ongoing research that aims to monitor the health of structures within a different philosophy. Instead of interpreting the results visually, the computer presents audio sounds corresponding to the structural vibration. To examine the procedure a test is set up with a three story steel shear frame structure. One person is trained with the audio response of the healthy and ill-conditioned structure, where the structural ill-conditioning is attained by means of changes in the story masses. After the training stage, a new ill- condition is set up, and the investigator is expected to perceive the change in the structural response. As a result, the health of the structure will be determined by using the investigator's audio sensing capability.
