ABSTRACT The purpose of defining drinking water guideline limits is to safeguard individuals from unforeseen detrimental effects over time. This work focuses on the preparation of the biodecorated material Moringa oleifera bark extract (MOBE) utilizing a sustainable green approach for radionuclide remediation. The novelty of this study lies in the first-time utilization of MOBE as a highly efficient biosorbent for uranium(VI) removal, distinguishing it from previously studied parts of the plant, such as seeds or leaves. The uranium(VI) capture efficacy on MOBE was significantly influenced by electrostatic attraction and complexation mechanisms. To elucidate the adsorption process, MOBE was comprehensively characterized using Fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscope, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy techniques. Compared with many conventional biosorbents, MOBE demonstrated a superior maximum monolayer adsorption capability of 59.90 mg/g for uranium(VI). Furthermore, the adsorbent exhibited a stable reusability of 78.3%. Due to its cost-effectiveness, eco-friendly nature, and high efficiency, MOBE serves as a novel and sustainable alternative for industrial wastewater treatment and environmental restoration. The MOBE comprises certain organic chemicals that have oxygen- and nitrogen-containing functional groups, which serve as efficient metal sequestrants. MOBE extract removes uranium(VI) as a natural biosorbent and an intermediate for green nanomaterial fabrication.
