Özet

The “Turkish Salmon” project, which was launched in Türkiye in 2018 under the leadership of the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has enabled rainbow trout, scientifically known as Oncorhynchus mykiss, to gain a strategic brand value, thus making significant contributions to the national economy and increasing Türkiye's competitiveness in the global aquaculture market. This comprehensive study aims to evaluate the farming conditions of Turkish salmon in the Black Sea, its comparative analysis with Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) in terms of nutritional values, its economic contributions to the sector and its sustainable production potential in the light of scientific data. Turkish salmon, which has increased its exports 17 times in the last five years and reached 500 million dollars, has become a socioeconomic transformation tool with the employment opportunities it creates in the Eastern Black Sea region and its contribution to gastronomy tourism. However, challenges such as the dependence of exports largely on a single market such as Russia are issues that need to be addressed carefully for the future of the sector. In light of all these data, the “Turkish Salmon” brand has the potential to be an important asset that will strengthen Türkiye's global position in the aquaculture sector, if supported by the right strategies and sustainable production policies.
