Public health emergencies due to communicable diseases are different from other types of disasters as they increase the risk of spreading infectious diseases during and after the event. Subjects are also risk factors and can be carriers. Also, in many diseases, the infection can be asymptomatic or some people may be immune to the infection. The main activities related to disasters where epidemiological methods are used include rapid needs assessment, tracking systems, surveillance, observational epidemiological studies, and evaluation of registries. Most of the criteria for disease frequency are based on prevalence and incidence. Incubation time, serial interval, and basic reproduction number are among the tools to accurately identify the agent in epidemics.
