Özet
The most common pottery type of the Early Iren Age in southeastern Turkey including the Lake Van Basin and the Elazig-Malatya region consists mainly of carinated bowls with one or more grooves just below the rim of the pot. These pots are usually pinkish brown or buff coloured and self-slipped, frequently without the application of burnishing or only slightly burnished. The pottery examined in this paper is from excavations at Karaz, Pulur and Güzelova in the Erzurum region. Materials from a sounding at Pulur and from surveys conducted on the Erzurum and Pasinler plains indicate that the surface colour of the Early Iron Age pottery in this area is mostly greyish brown, grey and black and that the grooved ware tradition does not exist in the Erzurum province, whereas grooved ware is a diagnostic type of ware in the rest of Eastern Anatolia.
