Summary

The first law of thermodynamics is frequently used as a rule to design of the air conditioning systems. The first law of thermodynamics, that is also known as the conservation of energy principle, is preferred in analysis of all thermal systems. Nevertheless, exergy analysis method is a more useful procedure compared to energy analysis approach for the design, performance evaluation and optimization of thermal systems. Exergy or availability is the useful work potential of a given amount of energy at some specified state. In this study, firstly, subject of energy and exergy is examined in general terms for steady-flow open systems. Then, energy and exergy analysis procedures will be explained for recirculating central air conditioning in heating mode. Thus, the rate of energy transfer taking place in and how much energy is converted into the beneficial work in this system are investigated.
